What kind of auxiliary lights are legal options for German traffic?

Basically there is 3 options:

• Double ref. marked led bar
• 2 or 4 round lights
• 2 (or 4) small led bars

In Germany a car can be fitted with 2 or 4 auxiliary driving lights. A standard single LED light bar does not meet this requirement as it is counted as just one light. The exception is a double-approved LED light bars, where one physical light bar is approved as two separate high-beam units. These lights can usually be identified by a reference number shown in a format such as 2 x 20 or 2 x 30.

In addition, auxiliary high beams used on public roads must have the appropriate E-approval. The combined reference number of all high beams that can operate at the same time may not exceed 100. This includes both the vehicle’s original high beams and any additional driving lights.

For example, if the vehicle’s original high beams have a combined reference number of 40, the auxiliary lights may have a combined reference number of no more than 60.
